Why I love Lowry! A resident gushes about her neighborhood

I have been a Denverite for nearly 30 years and have lived in 4 different neighborhoods – Congress Park, Cherry Creek, Belcaro and now, for the past 10 years, in Lowry. While each of those neighborhoods was in a great Central Denver location, Lowry is my favorite neighborhood of all of them. Here’s why:

  • Proximity to EVERYTHING.  20 minutes to DIA, 20 minutes to downtown, 15 minutes to the Denver Museum of Nature & History and the Denver Zoo, 10 minutes to Cherry Creek (shopper's mecca), 10 minutes to Northfield (Harkins Movie theatre and Bass Pro Outlet) and the entrance to I-270 with access to Boulder and Rocky Mountain National Park.
  • Great schools close by:  Lowry Elementary, George Washington High School (Denver Public) and several private schools (Montclair, Stanley British Primary and The Logan School.)
  • Walkability to  restaurants and shopping in Lowry Town Center.
  • The Schlessman Family Denver Public Library Branch.  (The convenience of having this library branch so close cannot be overstated;  I’m there once/week.)
  • Access to Denver’s bike paths.  We bike to REI downtown, out to Cherry Creek State Park and beyond – because our fabulous bike path system easily connects to Lowry.
  • I don’t have to drive on Colorado Boulevard if I don’t want to.
  • A local post office (11th & Syracuse).
  • Wide sidewalks for walking and biking.
  • A private swim club.
  • Great neighborhood parks for all ages (with kiddie play structures and fields for play).
  • 24-Hr Fitness.  Inexpensive memberships and lots of great classes.
  • Public tennis courts, basketball courts and baseball diamonds.
  • A year-round ice-skating rink at Big Bear!
  • Residential blocks laid out for neighborly interaction.  We all face a public green where kids can play and neighbors can say “Hey” from their front porches.
  • Public art.
  • Events for residents in Lowry Town Center – Halloween Parade for kids, Wine Walk for adults, for example.
  • A variety of home styles – single-family, two-story, townhomes, and apartments.

After nearly 30 years in Denver, Lowry has become the neighborhood that we call “home.” Written by Lorrie Webb Grillo
